The battle to schedule

On my personal blog, I started out this year talking about some of my personal goals for the year. I don't like to use the word resolution because resolutions don't work for me.

One of my goals was to find some me time. I stay at home during the day taking care of our 3 year old and the other goings on of our house. I teach from home online at night. This really doesn't leave me much time to get other things done. I am sure some of you are believers in the theory of you need time for yourself to better be able to take care of your kids. I am really not a subscriber to this theory. I mean, it is a nice idea, but if I have a son who is struggling in school to prepare for the next big test, I can't just say, 'Too bad, I need me time!" Their needs do definitely come first. What I am struggling with right now is balance.

For example, I love to loom knit, but I also love to read. There is just not enough time in my day to get both of these done. I had a good beginning to the year as far as my craft projects, but I have fallen into a zone where I am just not getting anything done. I also have not cracked a book open yet this month. This is highly unusual for me. I am an avid reader, and it just is not getting accomplished.

So, my question is, how do you find the time to get the extras done?

  1. I don't have an answer for you. I cannot seem to find time for any of the things I want to get done. I set goals for exercise and reading and I am not getting to either one. Normally, I devour books but right now I have not read anything in weeks.

  2. Now that I am out of school till Fall, I have a huge project list. I make sure I get to do at least a little bit of Me stuff everyday. Sometimes it's only 15-20 minutes tops. But at least I get to finish the day with something. Some days are better than others.

  3. My answer: I don't. I don't have time. And maybe there are women out there who are better than I am, but I just can't. So, there is a lot of stuff I let go and just don't worry about it. I work on whatever is my priority at the moment. If that week, I'm feeling a little less than attractive, I do my nails, do my feet, and give myself a little facial - all a little bit at a time. The next week, it's something else. But a lot of stuff never gets done. And that's OK, too, because I know I'm making time for the important stuff.

  5. Well, I have a question for you Therese. Are you feeling like you need "me" time? Are you frustrated with what you do with your time right now? I don't have a lot of "me" time either, but I don't feel frustrated with it. I feel like my "me" time is my work. My work I do here blogging like you. And maybe, just maybe, your "me" time is the time you spend blogging and tutoring and helping other children with school....
